The Winter Carnival!
As the carnival fever continues on Tinkle Online, we are going to talk about the Quebec city Winter Carnival, the only winter Carnival of the world! Like other carnivals that are celebrated outdoors in the sun, Carnival de Québec too is celebrated outside but on a blanket of fresh, white snow!
This Carnival has a unique mascot—Bonhomme Carnaval, a live snowman replica that dons a red hat and an arrow sash. The Mayor of Quebec hands over the keys of the city to Bonhomme Carnaval thus honoring him as the master of ceremonies. He presides over the activities of the Carnival during this time. He is a smiley, happy snowman as he is supposed to remind the people of Quebec of their fun times in the snow as children.
Some of the classic events that take place at the Quebec City Carnival are snow sculpture contests, Ice Canoe racing (where two teams race each other on canoes on the icy water of St. Lawrence River) dog sled rides, ice tobogganing, night fairs, and more!
What makes this Carnival extra special is that people take little notice of the harsh Canadian winter and come together to celebrate the occasion to the fullest!
